CHIVA South Africa
Juliet has overall responsibility for operational management. This includes identifying healthcare sites requiring support, building good relationships and facilitates the matching of healthcare sites with volunteers, maintaining effective partnerships with Departments of Health staff, attending networking events to promote CHIVA Africa.
In addition, Juliet provides regular support and training to health care professionals across KwaZulu-Natal, the Eastern Cape and Northwest Province.
Juliet is a registered general nurse (RGN) and a registered sick children’s nurse (RSCN), with post-graduate qualifications in tropical nursing (dip), social anthropology of childhood & child development (MSc), and is an independent nurse prescriber. She has been working in HIV care for over 25 years in government and NGO settings in the UK, Eastern Europe, North America and Southern Africa.
Adolescent Programme Manager
Nokuthula joined CHIVA Africa in January 2015 and is responsible for the management, development, delivery and evaluation of the adolescent programme. Nokuthula is a registered nurse in General Nursing, Midwifery, Community and Psychiatry. She has completed Post graduate studies in Leadership and Facilitation, Quality Improvement, Mentoring Nurses in Primary Health Care, Clinical Management on HIV /AIDS, Breastfeeding, PMTCT, Integrated Management of Childhood illness, Community Development training, Nursing Management and nursing education (UKZN).
She has previously worked in the Paediatric and Obstetric department at McCord Hospital and also took up positions as a PMTCT co-ordinator as well as gaining experience within the adolescent programme. Nokuthula also worked as project coordinator and assessor on the Mother Baby Friendly Initiation project run by UKZN-KIBS, as well as other roles with UKZN supporting KZN DOH Districts, Hospitals, PHC, and Municipal facilities on Quality Improvement.
Nokuthula Khosi Khumalo (known as KHOSI)
Paediatric Programme Manager
Khosi joined CHIVA Africa in January 2015 as Paediatric Programme Manager. As well as responsibility for the paediatric programme, Khosi will regularly join volunteer teams to provide clinical mentoring clinics and facilities.
Khosi is a registered nurse with Midwifery, Psychiatry, Community Health Nursing, Nursing Management, Primary Health Care and Occupational Health experience. She has a Post graduate diploma in HIV/AIDS Management in Paediatrics, Adolescents and Adults.
She has specialised in HIV/ AIDS management of Paediatrics, Adolescents and Adults, BANC (Basic Ante natal care and neonate), Occupational Health and Clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and care. (Primary Health Care nursing) and clinical nurse mentoring.
Khosi previously worked as a clinical nurse Mentor for HST (Health Systems Trust), as an Operational Manager at McCord’s Hospital HIV Clinic and a clinical nurse practitioner specialising in HAST management. She also worked in Eshowe Mobile PHC services, Mbongolwane Hospital; in charge of out-patients maternity departments.
Paediatric Programme/Volunteer Coordinator
Sizakele joined our staff team CHIVA SA in December 2015 supporting our paediatric programme and coordinating our South Africa volunteer activity. Prior to that she volunteered with CHIVA SA teams in both KZN and North West Province. Sizakele qualified as a counsellor at the Department of Psychology, University of KwaZulu-Natal and following training worked for ten years at McCord Hospital. She has also worked for Zoe Life where she carried out training to Department of Health and NGO facilities.
Sonto was first introduced to CHIVA SA as a youth friendly facilitator volunteer for workshops around KwaZulu-Natal. She joined the staff team in May 2013 and is responsible for assisting with the development, delivery and evaluation of the Adolescent and Youth Friendly Services programme.
Silindele joined CHIVA SA as volunteer in 2012 and the staff team as an intern in May 2013. She then progressed to being an office administrator and currently occupies the role of an Adolescent Youth Friendly Services Coordinator. She is also furthering her studies doing a degree in Social Work.
Manqoba started as a volunteer in 2014, he recently joined the staff team in January 2016. He is responsible for assisting with the development, implementation and evaluation of the adolescent and youth friendly service programme.
Nomfundo Gcina Mbatha
Nomfundo joined CHIVA SA in July 2012 as a volunteer youth facilitator for Youth Friendly Services workshops and also volunteered in the Durban office assisting the team with office work in 2015. She has joined the staff team as an Adolescent Youth Friendly Services Mentor.
Thokozani Dlamini (known as TK)
TK joined CHIVA SA in 2013 as a youth facilitator in the Youth Friendly Services workshops with a passion and dedication towards working with young people. He has recently joined the staff team as an Adolescent Youth Friendly Services Mentor in January 2016.
Smiso joined the team in August 2016 as and AYFS Mentor after assisting a facility that was being mentored by CHIVA SA. He is responsible for assisting with the implementation and monitoring of AYFS programme to five supported facilities.
Nomshado Ndwandwe (known as Bubbles)
Bubbles joined CHIVA SA in August 2016. She started as a volunteer working with the eThekwini teams. She then joined the staff team as an Adolescent Youth Friendly Services Mentor. She has previously worked at LoveLife as a groundBreaker (Youth Facilitator). She is currently working with the Paediatric team supporting facilities in the Harry Gwala District supporting in the AYFS implementation.
Siphesihle joined CHIVA SA in March 2016 as a Driver/Administrator. He is enthusiastic about the well-being of the young adolescent youth, he had previously worked in health facilities as a clinic senior clerk and as eThekwini health department accounts administrator. He joined CHIVA SA with the heart of assisting in making a difference in the health and lives of the adolescent youth of South Africa.
Stephen joined the CHIVA Africa team in January 2015 as CEO and is responsible for the development and execution of CHIVA Africa’s overall strategy, as well as ensuring that all programme delivery and organisational infrastructure is of the highest quality. Stephen has over 15 years’ experience of working in international development, most recently as Fundraising and Communications Director at Riders for Health. Prior to that Stephen held various fundraising and marketing roles at Practical Action and Oxfam GB.
Volunteer Coordinator and Administrator
Vanessa joined the CHIVA Africa team in April 2015 as our Volunteer Coordinator and Administrator and is responsible for managing bookings and administration for all UK volunteers. This includes managing communication with volunteers, maintaining volunteer records, reservations and travel arrangements, schedules and liaising with our SA team as well as various administrative tasks for the UK office. Vanessa’s background is over 20 years’ admin experience within the Healthcare Industry (both in UK and SA) as Senior Assistant to Consultants, Head of Medical Secretaries, Office Manager, Personal Assistant and HR and Recruitment Administrator.
