Welcome to CHIVA Africa

Providing affordable, sustainable, on the ground support

South Africa has the worst HIV epidemic in the world.

KwaZulu Natal (KZN), one of nine provinces in South Africa, is the epicentre of the epidemic.

In 2004 the South African government began rolling out life saving anti-retroviral medication to those in need. Consequently, many health workers currently lack experience in using antiretroviral therapies in children.

Treating children poses greater challenges to those in adults. Furthermore, due to fear of stigma and discrimination, many children are not being tested for HIV until it is too late. Hospitals are saturated with patients with HIV related illnesses. Health workers are over stretched and feel unsupported.

CHIVA Africa provides affordable, sustainable, practical, on the ground support to help local staff develop the skills they need to use antiretrovirals and manage HIV as a chronic disease.
